Morning walks to school have been very nice for the past two weeks. We live about a half mile from E and MHM's school. MHM just started a week ago so on his first day, I made quite a big to-do about it to E to keep her focused on the task at hand, getting to school. As we walked up the hill, she of course wanted to help push the stroller so I let her. That lasted only a few seconds as she found it quite difficult going up hill. "You do it daddy, I need help!".
Up the road, there was a cop pulled over checking the speeds of our neighbors. She rolled down her window and kind of chuckled at the sight of us. I explained that we were walking to school and she smiled as though she understood and said that it looked like a tough job ahead of me... No, I am sure I had everything handled quite well.
As we progressed, I asked E what she thought she would do in school and what MHM might do. "I'm going to plaaay, and I'm going to have snACK!
"Do you think you will do a craft?" "Oh, hey E, I am pretty sure you will go to music class today." "What is your favorite instrument?"
"I like ###tar" (unclear but intelligible)
"Oh yes, I like Guitar and I also am partial to piano. Mommy and you play piano some times, do you care for the piano??"
Yes, I do care for the piano!"
As we walked along we shared more conversation like that and I would once in a while look down to see MHM just taking it all in, peacefully and quietly. If ever I would speak his name, he would crane his neck to look up and back at me to give me just the most awesome smile and giggle.
What a wonderful couple of kids. I miss them when they are not around. They drive me nuts when I can't get away from them...
